Crystal Lake, Ill. – The MCC soccer team had a huge win Tuesday evening when they downed the Lancers of Lake County in a 3-0 decision. Clinging on to a 1-0 lead at halftime, the Scots scored two goals within the first 11 minutes of the second half to cement the conference victory over CLC.
It didn't take long for MCC to get on the scoresheet as the Scots drew a foul on the edge of the attacking third just a little under ten minutes into the game. Dylan Gonzalez stepped up to take the free-kick and whipped in a hard left-footed ball that leaked through the penalty box untouched and into the back of the net for a 1-0 Scots lead. The defense was locked in the remainder of the half, allowing no shots on goal for the Lancers.
Halftime: McHenry 1, Lake County 0
The offense came out on fire in the second half when one of eight corner kicks for the Scots was batted around in the box and eventually fell at the foot of Jesus Lopez who stabbed it in the back of the net for a 2-0 scoreline. Less than five minutes later, Lopez dropped in a perfectly weighted through ball that found Richie Macias-Sanchez who clinked the shot off the left post and in to put the hosts up 3-0.
Ten minutes later, MCC went down to ten men when Jeremiah Rodriguez received his second yellow card of the contest. However, McHenry weathered the storm and four second-half saves from Justin Washington helped preserve his clean sheet. The Scots fired in 29 total shots, with ten being on frame.
Final: McHenry 3, Lake County 0
